Released after 19 years of penal servitude for stealing a loaf of bread, Jean Valjean resolves to turn his life around and do good. Living under an assumed identity, he eventually becomes a respected figure in the community. After coming to the aid of Fantine, a dying factory worker, he vows to rescue her daughter, Cosette, from the clutches of the cruel Thénardiers. Yet his past catches up with him: Inspector Javert—a relentless police officer with a troubled past of his own—hunts him down, determined to send him back to the penal colony. Amidst a revolution in Paris, Valjean must fight to protect Cosette and achieve redemption, navigating a path of sacrifice and the pursuit of justice.
